About Us
Pasadena High School is a four-year comprehensive high school of some 2700 students located in the city of Pasadena, California. Pasadena is a city of 140,000 people nestled at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountain range, 10 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

The school draws its student body from the City of Pasadena and from the adjacent communities of Altadena and Sierra Madre. The student body is culturally diverse. Some 46% of the students list their ethnic backgrounds as Latino/Hispanic, 25% as African -American, 5% as Asian or Pacific Islander and the remaining 24% list Caucasian or Other. PHS draws two-thirds of its enrollment from lower socio-economic homes and, of these students, 10% reside in foster homes or group homes. This accounts for Pasadena High School having one of the largest foster enrollments in the state. A certificated staff of 115 (101 teachers, 6 counselors, 1 ROP counselor, 5 administrators, 1 librarian and 1 nurse) serve the students at PHS with the assistance of various support personnel.

Pasadena High School offers several special programs. The Graphic Communications Academy (GCA) was established in partnership with the Printing Industry of Southern California (PIA) and Pasadena City College. The Visual Arts and Design Academy (VADA) is linked with the internationally famous Art Center College of Design, Pasadena City College and the Pasadena Art Armory. The Center for Independent Study Program (CIS) emerged to meet the needs of students who fall behind in units but who otherwise are deserving of another opportunity to graduate from high school.

PHS participates in interscholastic sports as part of the Pacific League with equal opportunities for male and female students. Pasadena High School offers a wide variety of outstanding extra-curricular programs, including California Scholastic Federation, National Honor Society, Marching Band, Pep Band, Yearbook, and Chronicle (student newspaper), among many others. PHS also offers a wide variety of Advanced Placement classes.

PHS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
